national day @
marina boulevard

the main purpose of my going to marina boulevard was to watch the fireworks display but nah wanted to catch the other items like the helicopters flying with the huge state flag, the flypast and the bomb burst by the fighter jets.

by the time i reached the boulevard, there were lots of people streaming to the plot of land facing the parade area across the water. many came prepared with groundsheet, binoculars and digital cameras.

the excitement started around 7.00 p.m. when the helicopters strung with the huge state flag flew overhead. this was followed, a little while later, by screaming fighters jets and the shattering blast from the bomb burst.

nothing much happened over at our side except for short bursts of fireworks from the roof tops and from across the bay. then the 'jelly fish' started to float across the bay. as they gained height, the huge balls became bright with light.

it was quite dark, around 7.40 p.m. when the red lions, the free fallers, appeared as lighted strips high above us. there were five of them.

the massive firewoks display did not come on until almost 8.15 p.m. when the fireworks are so close to you, they do not appear to be as spectacular or as dazzling. they just seem brighter.
