our rented car - a ford territory tx

as there are seven of us - myself, lay bee, bel, chye hup, yew kim, yew lian and fiona - we decided on a 7-seater to move around in. we had wanted to rent a toyota tarago but none was available, which was expected as this brand of cars are in great demand close to the festive season. we settled for a 4-litre ford territory.

chye hak collected the car from hertz at the airport on the day we arrived in melbourne. ivy had driven her honda civic to the airport as there would not have been enough space in the rented car for our luggage. ivy took a taxi back to the city and lay bee took over the wheels.

the ford territory tx is the automatic version. the oversized tyres make the car looks bigger than it actually is. as it with most mpvs, the boot is almost non-existent. that was why we needed ivy's car to be at the airport.

chye hup and i take turns to drive the vehicle. where the journey is longer, like during the trip to geelong, he drove the first part and i covered the rest. the car seems quite economical - contrary to motor reviews - returning about 1.27 litre/100km. inspite of it size and weight, it is quite an easy car to handle.

as we are enjoying corporate rate for the rental - because lynn is in the travel business - the total cost for the 10-day rental is slightly over aus$600.
