changi point & changi village

went down to changi point & changi village to take some pictures for my blog.

changi was famous for its coconut plantations in the 1800s. as early as 1845, changi point was already a fashionable retreat for picnics and beach parties.

changi village was also known as 14 1/2 milestone changi road. the area was developed to serve the british officers and their families of the r.a.f. in changi. british officers used to hang out at milk bars and restaurants like europe bar and airfield restaurant.

bus service number 2 used to run between changi village and capitol theatre at sixty cents a trip.
the existing footbridge links changi village to changi beach park.

while i was on the footbridge, i could see the planes coming in to land at changi international airport every few minutes during the peak hours.

we stayed at the fairy point government bungalow when ivy was very young. i visited my former magistrate friend peter when he got his government chalet at netheravon road. i can also remember visiting irene teo and her husband when they stayed at the sia holiday bungalow at changi.

on weekdays, you can drop in at the changi sailing club for western food. not on weekends, though, unless you are a member.

at changi village, there are at least four stalls selling ayam penyet. for chinese food, you should try the fried wanton at the food centre.
