dinner at the village, glen waverley

yesterday night, chris, del, ivy, valerie, ida and i had dinner at jg dumpling restaurant located near the glen. we went there separately. chris and del reached there before us although i was supposed to be hosting the dinner. ivy drove ida, her friend valerie and me to the village.

we had taro pancake, bean pancake, sliced rice cake, shanghainese noodles, spicy noodles, fried dumplings and steamed dumplings. it was a substantial dinner, with servings of chinese tea. the total bill came to an surprisingly cheap aus$45. had expected to pay more than that; my own estimate was around aus$100.

the taro (yam) pancake was recommended by ivy. we all agreed that it was a good desert. the bean pancake was similar to the taro. the spicy noodles had generous serving of chilli powder. although it was spicy, it was still delicious. the fried and steamed dumplings were quite ordinary. the shanghainese noodles appeared to be some hand made noodles, thick and long.

ivy and chris mentioned that the food at bob's restaurant - which was of the same genre and just a few shops away, was much better. however the long queues outside the restaurant always put them off.

opposite jg dumpling restaurant is the popular rock kung restaurant, well known in the suburbs for its roast pork. roast duck, char siu and soya sauce chicken.
